Agenda
SYNOPSIS
It’s just another day going through airport security.
INSPIRATION
Édouard Manet
Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe
Manet’s depiction of one nude figure amid the fully clothed raises the question of how one person can be unlike those around them. In his painting, the woman’s choice to disrobe appears deliberate, but what if someone is singled out, not by choice, but by circumstance?

SYNOPSIS
The world of a puppy may seem small to us, but to them, their yard is a jungle to explore and protect.
INSPIRATION
Kawanabe Kyosai
Year of the Tiger
We welcomed a new puppy into our family and I couldn't help but think about the ways she explores the world, learns, and grows as if she is a wild animal like a tiger. I also wanted to incorporate some of the characteristics of the Tiger in the Chinese zodiac, which include bravery, confidence, and a love for adventure - all things this puppy displays both in my film and in real life!

SYNOPSIS
Precision cuts through prejudice when a woman's dart skills shatter a bar full of assumptions.
INSPIRATION
Jasper Johns
Target
I immediately thought dartboard when I first saw Jasper Johns' 'Target'. But when I dove deeper into Johns as a gay artist in America more layers were revealed. Johns' used symbols, many with an Americana spin, in his post-war work while having target on his own back for lifestyle. This film uses the dartboard as both object and metaphor showing how perception and prejudice can make us targets of judgment.

SYNOPSIS
In a stark, abstract world, Red, Blue, Yellow, and the Line speak as voices in tension. Red craves intensity, Blue clings to order, Yellow resists boundaries, while the Line insists it only holds the silence together. As they argue, cracks appear—revealing confinement as illusion. The dialogue dissolves into laughter, suggesting that balance, rebellion, and structure can coexist in fragile harmony.

SYNOPSIS
This film gives viewers a chance to learn about an unappreciated culinary art form straight from the chef that is championing it. His name is Van Bruggen and he is a Garnish Chef.
INSPIRATION
Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen
Spoonbridge and Cherry
When researching this piece I was shocked to learn that the iconic cherry that sits at the top of the spoon was not a part of the original design. They thought it was a bit plain, so they added a garnish.

SYNOPSIS
This film is a simple meditation on one's image of self and what defines it.

Christina's World
What struck me about Christina's World was neither the image itself, nor its true subject, but the divergence of perceptions that came in learning more about the painting itself. Rather than focusing on itself, it draws attention to the sum of its parts. It confronts you with your own assumptions.

Fly Boy
Fly Boy reminded me of a painting I did as a child of a girl with a bird head flying peacefully through the sky. For some reason, it haunted my mother and she brings it up frequently. I wanted to create a collage animation that reflected that fear.

SYNOPSIS
Juniper, age 5, gives her thoughts regarding the famous painting and tells us all exactly what is happening.
INSPIRATION

Creation of Adam
I feel this piece has had countless inerpretatons and meanings attributed to it. I was inspired to see how a 5 year old would view it and what kind of story she would tell with fresh eyes,

SYNOPSIS
A spiritual manifestation of nature takes form and journeys through the woodlands in this surreal, eco-sensual meditation.
INSPIRATION
Ibrahim el Salahi
The Tree
With the artist’s work entitled “The Tree” I knew I wanted to film in nature. African-influenced surrealism and his adoration for nature, animals, humans, and plant forms all inspired me to transform myself with flowers and evoke a magical being. It turned out to be a very meditative process: still, serene, with the sun’s rays casting rainbows and pinholes of light through my colorful veil. The music has a sweeping, etherealness but also a very manmade, electronic sound inspired by cicadas and other tree-dwelling insects.

SYNOPSIS
A young man contemplates the next phase of his life and whether he will be able to make his family proud in this '70s inspired slice of life film.
INSPIRATION
Juan Gris
Harlequin With a Guitar
I found a few ways to use Juan Gris's work as inspiration. Some of it in framing key shots with a Cubist lens, some in the characters we meet in the film, and even the soundtrack's primary instrument is an acoustic guitar. This blended approach correlates to Cubist ideals of collage, muted palette and use of whimsical subjects to tell a story.

SYNOPSIS
Liv reflects on the staggering value placed on Man Ray’s Le Violon d’Ingres and the overlooked lives of artists like Alice Prin. Her musings turn toward questions of legacy, objectification, and worth. Perhaps ultimately cursing and raging against f-holes.
INSPIRATION
Man Ray
Le Violon d'Ingres
I've seen this photo before, but never knew much about the background behind it. I was a bit bothered and unsettled by the fact that it eventually sold for twelve million dollars, while the model in the photo died in poverty. So this one's for Alice Prin.

SYNOPSIS
When a mom loses her phone she looks to her teenage daughter for some help finding it, but how can she find anything in such a messy room?
INSPIRATION
Henri Matisse
The Red Studio
When I first saw the Red Studio, I noticed the sort of controlled mess of the studio with paintings and sculptures everywhere. It reminded me of my room and how it was really messy but I still knew where things were in the mess. I’ve been told a lot as a teenager that my room is too messy and I won’t be able to find anything, as well as not being able to find something before my mom finds it the first place she looks, so I decided to flip the script a bit for my film.

Big Teeth 60-Second Film Fest Attendee

SUBMISSIONS: Got a short that you want the world to see? Visit bigteethsmallshorts.com to submit to an amazing Chicago Short Film Festival.
WHAT: Big Teeth Small Shorts Film Festival (BTSSFF) is a bi-annual short film showcase in Chicago that features only super short films (up to 5 minutes long). Each event is a one-night screening where you will see between 35-40 shorts from all over the world by filmmakers of all stripes. It is an independent film event that is meant to appeal to any type of movie fan from super snob to Marvel Marvin.
WHEN/WHERE: Screenings happen twice a year at Facets, Chicago’s favorite independent cinema house. To purchase tickets or find out more visit bigteethsmallshorts.com.
WHY: After the success of The Big Teeth 60-Second Film Fest, we fell in love with the idea of curating a really great show that supports truly independent filmmakers while also providing a really cool cultural experience for film snobs and “regular” folks as well. Film festival submissions are a funny thing and there are so many artists pouring their heart onto the screen in search of an audience, but the rules or the fees of so many film festivals make that a huge challenge.
We believe that there are tons of talented filmmakers out there who either can't afford to make longer films or believe in very short form storytelling, and we want to help them showcase their work at an independent film event that honors those who make the films and those who love to watch them.
If you love this fest, check out
