The Project:
Challenge: Common Pantry needed to communicate that they're more than just a food distribution center—they're addressing nutrition security, not just food security. The challenge was showing how their nutrition education program breaks the cycle between food insecurity and chronic disease by teaching guests how to prepare affordable, culturally appropriate, nourishing meals using pantry ingredients.
Approach: We created an educational video highlighting Common Pantry's nutrition program through a cooking demonstration format. Following their nutritionist as she prepared chickpea curry for guests, we captured the welcoming, nonjudgmental approach that makes nutrition education accessible rather than intimidating. The video showcases cooking demos, ingredient prep, sample distribution, and the SWAP nutrition guide that helps guests make informed choices in the pantry. We focused on the dignity and respect with which Common Pantry serves its community—meeting people where they're at and empowering them with knowledge, not just providing meals.
Result: A warm, informative video that elevates Common Pantry's mission from emergency food relief to holistic nutrition support. The piece demonstrates how they're addressing health equity by providing not just food access, but nutrition education, cooking techniques, and culturally appropriate recipes that guests can replicate at home with pantry ingredients. The video serves as both a donor/fundraising tool and an educational resource that shows the true scope of Common Pantry's community impact.
